THE SYDNEY CONSORT

THE SYDNEY CONSORT

Sunday 28 April 2019
2.30pm - Blue Mountains Theatre, Macquarie Rd. Springwood 2777
Bach, Scotts & Irish in Harmony
Music from the BACH father & sons - Johann Sebastian, Wilhelm Friedemann and Johann Christian and music by Turlough O’Carolan, Thomas Roseingrave, Burk Thumoth, James Oswald, Nathaniel Gow and William McGibbon in a programme that includes a rarely performed collection of baroque music from Ireland and Scotland. The rhythm of Irish jigs, sorrow and charismatic harmony performed on most prominent instruments – fiddle and flute with harpsichord (harp) flavour.

The Sydney Consort is one of Australia’s most energetic music ensembles devoted to early music of the 17th and 18th century, as well as contemporary Australian music on period instruments. Attractive programmed performances show their absolute passion about the true Baroque. Their mission is to provide excellent, historically informed music to a wide audience and to ‘revive’ forgotten music and works by obscure composers, unpublished scores and rarely performed compositions that by all means deserve to be presented.

Wood, Strings, Brass, Percussion Orchestra
Artistic Director: ROGER BENEDICT

"BOLD BEGINNINGS"

Now in its 18th year, the Sydney Symphony Fellowship is recognised as one of the world’s leading orchestral training programs, providing exceptional young musicians with an intensive year-long program of mentoring, performances, workshops, and immersion in the world of the Sydney Symphony Orchestra.
Returning to the Blue Mountains Concert Society, the Sydney Symphony Fellows will perform “Bold Beginnings” an intriguing program of chamber works and arrangements.
Beethoven’s First Symphony arrangement by Carl Friedrich Ebers’ followed the 19th century custom of publishing chamber arrangements of popular symphonies. Iain Farrington has continued this practice into the 21st Century with his arrangement of Humperdinck’s Hansel and Gretel overture. Benjamin Britten’s Sinfonietta is a mini symphony for eleven players and was his first published work that established him as a major force in British music. Peggy Polias is a remarkable young Australian composer whose work explores the relationship between popular and classical music.

SYDNEY CHAMBER CHOIR

SYDNEY CHAMBER CHOIR

Saturday 9 November 2019
7.30pm - Blue Mountains Theatre, Macquarie Rd. Springwood 2777
Choral
Conducted by Sam Allchurch

Sydney Chamber Choir has forged a reputation as one of Australia’s leading choral ensembles. In 2019 they perform “Time and Place” - a journey around the world and across the centuries in a constellation of choral gems linking Canada, the US, Ireland, Latvia and Australia through rich singing traditions, passion, tenderness and beauty of the lush choral harmonies of composers Healey Willan, René Clausen, Morten Lauridson and Australian composers Paul Stanhope’s, Ella Macens and Clare Maclean. At the heart of the program, lies two powerful meditations on the inescapable truth of time: David Conte’s “Invocation and Dance” in a celebration of nature’s cycles of death and renewal, and Jonathan Dove’s exquisite song cycle “The Passing of the Year”.
